The IOGCC, in collaboration with our host state of North Dakota, is proud to offer a variety of special events for our conference attendees to enjoy while in Medora.

Golf Event at Bully Pulpit

Cost: $102, plus taxes and fees, for 18 holes with a golf cart.

Available: On Sunday, August 25, we have reserved an IOGCC block of six tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. MT. To reserve a tee time in the block, call the course at (701) 623-4655. If you don’t have a foursome, contact Ron Ness at ronness@ndoil.org.


Fossil Dig at Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation Site 

Join us and the North Dakota Geological Survey Paleontology Department for a unique opportunity to explore for fossil plants, animals and maybe even dinosaurs! https://www.dmr.nd.gov/ndfossil/digs/

This event requires a minimum of 3 participants with a maximum of 15 each day. Participants will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis. Recommended Attire: Come hydrated with sunscreen and bug spray. Don’t forget to use the restroom before takeoff!

Hike to Petrified Forest at Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Recommended Attire: Come hydrated with sunscreen and bug spray. Monitor weather for proper attire however you may consider: Wide brim hat; sunglasses; layers that accommodate the days weather conditions; moisture wicking fabrics; hiking boots; and thick socks. Don’t forget to use the restroom before takeoff!

Please keep the following in mind as you hike:

  • All plants, wildlife, and natural and cultural features are protected. This includes animal bones, rocks, flowers, cultural items, and anything else you may discover while hiking. Do not disturb or remove these things.
  • All trash and other materials, including toilet paper, must be packed out.
  • Hikers should yield the right-of-way to horseback riders.
  • Respect wildlife and other visitors by keeping noise low while on trail.

Technical Tour of the Bakken   

"From drilling to production to transportation - North Dakota, the #2 oil producer in the nation, is ready for you to experience how it all happens. This tour will include stops at an active drilling rig, the Belfield Gas Plant, as well as the Fryburg Rail Terminal."

Recommended Attire: Come hydrated with sunscreen and bug spray. Monitor weather for proper attire however you may consider: Wide brim hat; sunglasses; bright colored layers that accommodate the days weather conditions and allow to good visibility by workers when on location; moisture wicking fabrics; tennis shoes. Don’t forget to use the restroom before takeoff! All other safety gear will be provided it necessary.

"Evening in Medora" Pitchfork Steak Fondue

"Evening in Medora" Musical: The Greatest Show in the West   

“Performed live and outside, under the Badlands sky in the 2,900-seat Burning Hills Amphitheatre, the show is dedicated to President Theodore Roosevelt's time in the Badlands and to the Spirit of the Old West. 

You'll be treated to high-energy music by the Burning Hills Singers and our LIVE band, The Coal Diggers. Plus, you'll enjoy guest variety acts from around the world, LIVE horses on stage, a family-friendly humor, an exciting "charge up San Juan Hill", fireworks and more.”
