Recognition of State Regulation of Hydraulic Fracturing
WHEREAS, the states have safely and successfully regulated hydraulic fracturing for over 60 years and should continue to regulate this activity within their state; and,
WHEREAS, the states have developed environmentally responsible regulations to meet the unique geologic and hydrologic needs of their jurisdictions; and,
WHEREAS, the states are the best suited regulatory authority to ensure the proper conservation of oil and natural gas and protection of the environment; and,
WHEREAS, the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC) passed Resolution 12.076 during the Business Session of our 2012 Annual Meeting supporting states first regulation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the IOGCC hereby declares support for the Congress of the United States to pass legislation recognizing state jurisdiction for the regulation of hydraulic fracturing.
